Betty Brantley

Betty Joyce Lindsay Brantley was born July 8, 1941, and passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at the age of 84.

She was sassy, independent, and endlessly crafty – the kind of person who could turn a simple afternoon into something special. Her kitchen was often filled with laughter and decorated cakes. She had a gift for making ordinary moments beautiful. She cherished long coffee dates with friends, where stories were shared and laughter lingered. Shopping trips were never just errands, they were adventures, complete with strong opinions, sharp wit, and an eye for a good find. Joyce worked at McLeod Wood for 12 years and retired from Nichols after 31 years of being the bookkeeper.

Her independence was inspiring, her sass unforgettable, and her love for life evident in everything she did. She leaves behind memories filled with warmth, sweetness, and a little sparkle – just like her.

She is survived by her children, James Levon Brantley, Mary Sue Duncan, and Richelle Brantley Bowman and husband Johnny; grandchildren, Lindsay Layfield (Daniel), Amy Bowman, Christine Heavner (Jase), Paige Cocco (Robert), Payton Brantley, Nick Brantley, Justin Brantley (Cindy), Amanda Lyons, and Jordan Manela (Shavon); and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Shannon “Bull” Dale Brantley; grandson, Cody Bowman; granddaughter, Amy Lyons; parents, Louis and Myrtis Lindsay; and grandmother, Molly Spicer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tori and Polly for the excellent care provided for Joyce.

The family received friends from 4 – 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, and continuing from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service being at 2 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 1, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy.
