Mark Judson is DeQuincy’s newest attorney. He has opened Judson Law Firm on 212 East Fourth St. in Adrian “Doug” Cox’ former office. He is also the new City Attorney.
Here is an interview with Judson, in his own words:
I’m a redneck from West Point, Miss.. That’s in northeast Mississippi near Starkville, and Tupelo. My mother was a homemaker. My dad was a soybean farmer. I’m the baby of four. I had a great childhood. However, I decided early on that farming was not for me. Eventually, my path led to Ole Miss for both college and law school.
While attending Ole Miss, I met a girl from Lake Charles, Sara McLeod, daughter of Cissie and Bill McLeod. We fell in love, she brought me home with her, and then I fell in love with Southwest Louisiana. We have been married for just under 32 years. Sara is the CEO of the Community Foundation of SWLA. We have one daughter, Rachel, who is a graduate student at LSU.
Sara’s grandfather, Dr. W. L. McLeod, was a Presbyterian pastor. So, the handwriting was on the wall. If I married Sara, I would become Presbyterian. Some say I was “predestined” to be Presbyterian. Both Sara and I are Elders at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Charles where we have enjoyed many active roles.
For over 31 years, I have had the privilege of serving the people of SWLA with a varied law practice including wills, successions, powers of attorney, real estate, business transactions, family law, adoptions, interdictions, contested litigation and other civil matters. Besides being a practicing attorney, I have a fair amount of what I call community – legal – experience including: legal advice columnist for the American Press, regular appearer on KPLC’s “Legal Corner,” and Executive Director of the SWLA Law Center, a non-profit law firm that helps the under-resourced with civil legal needs.
Most recently, Jonathan Fontenot, a lawyer from Cameron Parish, and I have started a podcast called “Law Talk.pro” which provides answers and strategies to common legal questions.
My other community involvement includes being on the leadership team of the monthly One Hundred Men’s Breakfast, a Christian themed, ecumenical men’s breakfast. I’m a member of Profit and Loss, a Christian business leaders’ organization. On Friday nights in the fall, I am the radio play by play announcer for Barbe High School Football. And I am a proud new member of the DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce.
I truly believe that God has blessed me with a lot of great experience and has guided my life’s journey to the point where I am fairly well equipped to offer pragmatic and cost-effective advises and solutions to people’s legal needs.
An unexpected blessing that God sent my way is the wonderful opportunity to be the next City Attorney for DeQuincy as well as a new member of the DeQuincy business community. As everyone knows, Doug Cox, the longtime City Attorney and DeQuincy lawyer, has retired. I am very fortunate to have the chance to follow Doug and to attempt to live up to the example he has set in representing clients and in serving this community. I am honored to open Judson Law Firm in the same location as Doug’s former office. My DeQuincy Office hours will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. The phone number is 337-786-2221.
