Surplus vehicles up for bid; condemnation process begins

The DeQuincy City Council meeting on Monday, Apr. 8, was opened with invocation and pledge.

The regular meeting minutes for Mar. 11, 2024 were approved along with the approval of the Apr. 8, 2024 agenda.

Mayor Riley Smith was authorized to sign a resolution to declare the following vehicles to be surplus and sell to the highest bidder and if there are no bids then authorize city to sell for junk.

The surplus vehicles are as follows: 2013 LS Tractor P7010C, 2008 Ford Truck 8984, 2012 Dodge Truck 9093, 2001 GMC Truck 9898, Zero Turn Bobcat mower 0844, 2017 Dodge Dur 8739, 2016 Ford 6404, 2017 Ford 1612.

Mayor Smith was authorized to act on behalf of the City of DeQuincy to consider and take appropriate action for the Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and the City of DeQuincy regarding the Summer Food Program. Mayor Smith was also authorized to sign any documents necessary to approve the reappointment of Lynne Treme and Darlene Hooker to serve as Commissioner of the Housing Authority for a term of five years. Mayor Smith was authorized to sign any documents necessary to change the auditor firm to Kolder, Slaven and Co. LLC.

There were two Ordinances that a Public Hearing and Adoption were heard by Council:

Ordinance #963 addressing signs on streets inside the city limits. No input at Public Hearing concerning this Ordinance #963. Ordinance was adopted.

Ordinance #964, Public Hearing and Adoption was heard by Council. No input and Ordinance #964 was adopted on a ban on Jake Braking on streets inside city limits.

The Council voted to proceed to the next step of the condemnation process of the following locations:

  • 211 Jackson St.
  • 207 Jackson St.
  • 205 Jackson St.
  • 103 Grand Ave.
  • 103 Edgewood St.
  • 107 Edgewood St.
  • 1114 Truth St.

The meeting was adjourned.
