Bertha Mae Burgess, 98, of Westlake, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024. She was born on Dec. 23, 1925 in Saltville, Virginia to Henry Hunt Sr. and Leanna Bucanna Hunt.
Bertha graduated with a Bachelor’s in nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. Bertha loved baking, growing flowers and taking care of her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crossword puzzles in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivory Slater Burgess Sr., sons, Ivory Slater “Buster” Burgess Jr., Alfred, Dennis, a daughter, Naomi Harrington, great-grandsons, Cory Wes Burgess and Gary Wayne Thompson Jr., her parents and all of her siblings.
Survivors include a son, Joshua Burgess and wife, Katherine (Nix) formerly of Singer; daughter, Sarah Burgess; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-great-grandson.
Visitation began at 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake.
Her funeral service began at Noon on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Hixson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Richard Hamilton officiated. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake.
