Robert Ellis

Robert Mirk Ellis, age 80, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Oct. 30, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 23, 1943 to Frances Ann Plastic’ and Mirk John Ellis in Cleveland, Ohio, he was raised there among a tight-knit community of families who, like his own, immigrated from Brac, a Croation island in the Adriatic Sea. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School, then attended the University of Dayton where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1965 and Master of Business Administration in 1967. He moved to Texas for work in the aerospace industry and later met Mary Louise Bruce at the home of a mutual friend. They were married on Dec. 11, 1976. Combining their families, they raised their four children to live wholeheartedly for God and truly enjoyed traveling together through life and on trips to places around the world.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Mirk and Frances; his granddaughter, Grace Elisabeth Ellis; and his sister, Judith Kathryn Scott.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Mary Ellis; and his four children, Dwayne Ellis and Marisol of League City, Texas, Dr. Keven Ellis and Shelli of Lufkin, Texas, Jennifer and Conlen Jones of Lufkin, Texas, and Jeffery Ellis and Charity of Friendswood, Texas; ten grandchildren, Linsie and Brock Pollino of Lufkin, Texas, Kati and Jeff Rountree of Beaumont, Texas, Jacob Ellis of Tyler, Texas, Makayla and Rigo DeLeon of Houston, Texas, Ethan Jones and Shelby of Lufkin, Texas, John Ellis of Euless, Texas, Makinsie and Collin Brown of Houston, Texas, Noah Jones of Lufkin, Texas, and Jude and Rhett Ellis of Friendswood, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Iris Jones, Benjamin Rountree, Indy Jones and Mia DeLeon; one sister, Diane and Jim Murphy of Keene, New Hampshire; and mother of Dwayne and Keven, Rozlynne Rush, of Bellingham, Washington. He also leaves behind many adoring extended family members and friends.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at First Church, Pearland, Texas. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at First Church, Pearland, Texas. Graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
