This update was provided by the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Sept. 4:

Update

Voluntary Evacuations are still in place for the Junction community areas north of the town limits of Merryville and east of Junction and along the areas north and south of Hwy 190 to the Williams/Vigor Miers Rd. Voluntary evacuation for the Ragle Road/Hauser Rd area north of Longville has been lifted. All past roadways remain open to traffic. Those are highways 27, 190, 110, 389, and 111.

Areas along Hwy 110 West between Singer and Merryville RED TEAM will continue mop up operations along all perimeter lines 50 feet in. Mitigate needle caste within dozer line, preventing reburn. The purpose is to keep fire north of Hwy 110 West and existing control lines. Complete mop up 100 feet in. Residence and structures are protected. Fire remains within the current footprint.

Areas along Hwy 190 from Merryville to Shinn Road to include the Town of Merryville the task for that area is to Reinforce the dozer lines as direct as possible. The purpose is to keep the fire north of Frazier Road, East of the Hwy 190 corridor and south of Whiddon and Shinn Road. Protection of Merryville, residence, structure and to provide for residence to return to their homes.

Areas East of Shinn Road along Hwy 190 to Schuetz Road task is to continue mop up along direct dozer lines 100 feet. Monitor hardwood bottom along north end of division. Structures are protected in the area to withstand advancing fire and progression to north and east is halted. Structures protected and fire remains within the current footprint.

Areas East of Schuetz and along Hwy 27 to Singer task is to continue mop up 100 feet interior from the perimeter line. Maintain current fire line perimeter. Structures are protected to withstand advancing fire and progression to north and east is halted. Structures protected and fire remains within the current footprint.

The situation is getting better, but we are not out of the woods yet. We are still in a drought and much rain is needed. Remember the statewide Burn Ban is still in effect. Be smart and Do Not Burn Anything. Be smart and do your part to continue to help in this fight.
