John Pharris

John Quentin Pharris was born on Aug. 5, 1979 and passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the age of 43. He was a man of many talents and knew how to do just about everything from logging to construction to sports, and was good at all of it – a genuine jack of all trades.

He was employed at Westlake Chemical for the past 19 years where he was a lead operator and took pride in knowing his job well. More than anything John loved his family, and loved spending time with them, most often just hanging out and grilling steaks. One of his more recent loves was attending First Moss Bluff Church, and he would lose sleep just to attend.

He also loved baseball and played or coached for most of his life, including pouring himself into helping his boys become the best athletes they could be. Everything he did was with passion and intensity. He never met a stranger and loved helping people. He was extremely generous and would give his time, talents, and possessions to anyone in need. He will be intensely missed by those who knew him best and will leave a void in everyone’s heart.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Angie Pharris; sons, Cullen and Quentin Pharris; step-sons, Alex and Gregory Henry; brother, Sam Pharris and wife, Marisa; sister, Whitney Miller and husband, Kenneth; niece, Myli Miller; nephew, Bowen Miller; step-father, Donald Wilkins; step-mother, Debra Pharris; and his fur baby, Renn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Pharris; mother, Edith Wilkins; paternal grandparents, Dude and Hazel Pharris; and maternal grandparents, Earl and Ruby Leger.

The family received friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 8 at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Visitation continued from 2 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at Bible Baptist Church, 311 Second St., DeQuincy. Interment followed at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
