After 26 years of service in the United States Navy, Shaina Simien, DeQuincy native, retired Thursday, June 15.
Simien is the son of Mrs. Alicia Lynette Jones of Beaumont, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Ennis Simien, of DeQuincy. His journey began just before he was 18 years old, upon graduating from DeQuincy High School in 1997 he enlisted and through the grace of God and the support of his family, friends, mentors and colleagues he was able to have a rewarding, lifelong career, taking away invaluable qualities such as leadership, camaraderie, discipline and determination.
His retirement ceremony was held at The Community Center aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Simien says it has been an honor and a privilege to serve his country, and he looks forward to celebrating this next chapter of his life.
