The 2023 USSSA Cajun Classic was held Thursday, June 15, at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette.
There were 15 participants in the Boys 12-14 event which was decided in the final two holes. Ivan Popp birdied the 17th hole to tie Bear Shaheen, IV, for the lead at +9. Popp, of Lafayette, struggled on the final hole, recording a bogey on 18 to finish with a 10-over 81. Shaheen, of DeQuincy, parred the hole to finish in first place with a 9-over 81. Mason LeBlanc, of Lafayette, shot an 83 to take third place.
The next event on the Louisiana USSSA Junior Golf Tour is the USSSA Governor Games State Championship Tournament. The two-day event is scheduled for July 1-2 at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary.
