Darla Fontenot Pickering, 56, was born Mar. 6, 1967, and passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Merryville. She was a teacher for 22 years and loved working with children. Darla enjoyed doing charity work, gardening, jewelry making, and helping at the local nursing homes.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Pete Pickering; children, Micah Pickering and Aidan Pickering and wife, Isabelle; mother, Alda Kay Clark; sister, Rebecca Fontenot Shell; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmie Lee Fontenot; and stepfather, Dean Clark.
The family received friends from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 17, at First Baptist Church of Merryville. Rev. Wayne Squyres officiated Interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.
Pallbearers were Blake Shell, Zach Marcantel, Randy Boudreaux, Bruce Havens, Justin Eddleman, and Michael Pickering.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
