James Phillips

James Wade Phillips was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Yalobusha County, Miss., and passed away peacefully at his home in Spring, Texas on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the age of 92.

Upon high school graduation James served 20 years in the United States Air Force stationed in various overseas locations along with various locations throughout the United States. He retired in 1970 and made his home in Finger, Tenn. where he learned HVAC repair and went into HVAC and appliance repair.

James was an active member of Christ Community Church, The Pentecostals of Henderson for 50+ years, serving in many capacities around the church helping wherever needed. In 2021 James moved to Spring, Texas to live with his daughter. There he was a faithful member of the Pentecostals of the Woodlands.

He is survived by his daughters Judith Crowe and husband, Bob of Finger, Tenn., Yvonne Johnson of Jacks Creek, Tenn., Anita Hawkins and husband, Wes of Texarkana, Ark., Esther Phillips of Spring, Texas and daughter-in-law, Debi Phillips of Henderson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Angela Griffith, Samantha Stark, Rebecca Gowens, Noah Phillips, Justin Coles, Tiffany Coles, Wade Coles, Larissa Barker; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elisabeth Mendl Phillips; second wife, Ruth Ann Chatman Phillips; parents, Wade Phillips and Mattie Fly Phillips; children, Robert Phillips, John Phillips, and Irene Phillips; and siblings, Sennie Dodd and John Phillips.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
