Shala Rougeau

Shala Nicole Wilridge Rougeau was born on Nov. 26, 1984 to Darlene Wilridge and the late Billy Ray Wilridge Sr. On Wednesday, Apr. 26, 2023, God called a beautiful soul home with open arms.

Shala Nicole Wilridge Rougeau was a graduate of the Welsh High School Class of 2004. She accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Aaron Williams. She later pursued her education earning an Associate Degree of Science, in Health and Human Services.

Before God called her home, Shala was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services. Shala was a very hard worker who enjoyed working with children and the elderly. She was employed by Calcasieu Parish School Board as a substitute teacher until her illness took a toll over her health. Shala truly enjoyed and loved family time and shopping in her spare time.

Shala leaves to cherish her love and memories her loving husband, Russell Rougeau of Lake Charles; her mother, Darlene Wilridge of Lake Charles; three brothers, Billy Ray Wilridge Jr, Tremaine Wilridge and Dustin (Kendriana) Wilridge of Lake Charles; four nieces, Paris Wilridge, Lon’Dynn Wilridge, Ryleigh Wilridge and Kehlani Wilridge; five nephews, Billy Ray Wilridge III, Carter Wilridge, Christian Martin, Dre’on Bartie and Da’von Bartie all of Lake Charles; three godchildren, Jarvesha Zeno, Ismael Mayes Jr. and Fantasia Phills all of Houston, Texas; father-in-law, Al (Natasha) Rougeau of Welsh; sister-in-law, Aldrieka Rougeau of Lake Charles; God-parents, Loretta Douglas of Fort Myers, Fla. and Junius Jackson III of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed by a special friend, John Zeno Jr. To know her was to love her!

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Ray Wilridge Sr.; grandparents, Nancy Jean Jackson, Junius Jackson Sr., Lula Mae Wilridge and O’neal Wilridge; uncles, ohn Jackson, Royce Wilridge and Tommie Lee Flanagain; and nephew, Deontae Wilridge.

The family received friends from 9 a.m. until time of the celebration of life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 710 Welsh St., Welsh. Interment followed at Eastridge Cemetery in Welsh.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
