‘Special assessment freeze’ told

Calcasieu Assessor, Wendy Curphy Aguillard, would like to remind Seniors, Disabled Veterans, and Disabled Citizens that they may qualify for a “Special Assessment Freeze”. This benefit will freeze the value of their homestead property against future value increases.

To qualify your household income must be less than $100,000 and you must be:

65 or older, Or a disabled Veteran with a 50% or more service connected disability, OR 100% disabled through the Social Security Administration.

For more information on the qualifications to file for these “Special Assessment Level Freezes” and the documentation needed, call the Calcasieu Parish Assessor’s Office at 337-721-3000.

Applicants must bring proof of age, proof of disability and proof of income (as required by law) for the “Special Assessment Level Freezes”.

May be applied for during regular office hours 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, at the Lake Charles Office, located at 1011 Lakeshore Dr., #101.

Additionally, our staff will be at local senior centers to provide information and applications on the following days:

Westlake Senior Center on Tuesday, May 23, from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

Sulphur Senior Center on Wednesday, May 24, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Lake Charles Senior Center on Thursday, May 25, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
