Iris Mazily

Iris “Juanita” Hanberry Mazilly was born on Mar. 31, 1929 in DeQuincy. She lived in Baton Rouge until December 2022. Juanita eventually moved to High Hope Care Center in Sulphur, Louisiana where she lived until she was called home on Wednesday, Apr. 26, 2023 at the age of 94.

She is survived by five grandchildren and their spouses, William Chad Mazilly (Jessica), Allyson Mazilly Carlson (Todd), Casie Mazilly Moen (Matt), Bailey Lovell, and Emily Guffy; great grandchildren, Parker and Annabelle Mazilly, Caden and Larkin Carlson, Soren and Lochlan Moen, Nathan Gottschalk, and Cameron Kush; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Juanita was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Allen Mazilly, Sr.; her parents, William Wiley Hanberry, Sr. and Iris Fain Ellis Hanberry; sons, James Allen Mazilly, Jr. and William Larkin Mazilly; brother, William Wiley (Bud) Hanberry, Jr.; sister, Willa Fain (Billie) Hanberry Porter; along with her precious daughter-in-law, Carol Hogg Mazilly.

She will be missed immensely. Juanita loved and was loved by everyone her life touched.

A Celebration of Juanita’s life will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Saturday, May 6, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Pallbearers will be: Dwyer Broussard, Todd Carlson, Wiley Cooley, Chad Mazilly, Rodney Paul Mazilly, and Roman Mazilly.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Forsyth and Grady Williams.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the DeQuincy Study Club c/o Linda Dunham. Her address is 103 Margaret St., DeQuincy LA 70633.

Services entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 203 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
