New tax, not renewal, for Ward 6 Fire Prevention District #1

Fire Protection District No. 1 of Ward 6 of Calcasieu Parish will be holding a public meeting on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 7 p.m. at 108 Marcantel Rd.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider calling an election on Oct. 14, to authorize the levy and collection of an ad valorem tax of 9.95 mills in lieu of 3 mills previously levied.

A new tax proposal to be put on the ballot would raise Fire Protection Dist. No. 1 of Ward 6 upwards of 34 mills by adding 9.95 mills to the already 22.75 milss that is now in place making it the highest in the parish.

This area includes up to Dunn Ferry Bridge; outside the city of DeQuincy including: Holbrook Park Rd./Perkins Settlement, Pine Acres Subdivision, Hargrove Settlement, Bankens Rd., High Hope Rd., and Royer Loop.

Board members are: Roy Arrant, Josh Foster, Brenda Vige, Roderick Williams and Bobby Cholley.

Notice is hereby given in compliance with La. R.S. 42:19.1, that the governing authority of Fire Protection District No. 1 of Ward 6 of Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, will meet in open and public session on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 7 p.m., at 108 Marcantel Rd., DeQuincy, to consider calling an election to be held on Oct. 14, 2023 in Fire Protection District No. 1 of Ward 6, Calcasieu Parish, to authorize the levy and collection of an ad valorem tax of 9.95 mills in lieu of 3 mills previously levied for the purpose of acquiring buildings, machinery and equipment, including both real and personal property, and purchasing fire trucks and other fire fighting equipment to be used in giving fire protection to the property within the District.
