Singer baseball takes two

Singer vs. Pickering

Gavin Wright’s walk-off gives Singer Hornets victory over Pickering.

Singer Hornets Varsity defeated Pickering 5-4 on Tuesday thanks to a walk-off groundout. The game was tied at four with Singer batting in the bottom of the seventh when Gavin Wright grounded out it drive in the winning run.

In the top of the fifth inning, Pickering tied things up at four. As Singer committed an error to score one run for Pickering.

Dylan Conner got the start for Singer. The bulldog went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out 11.

Conner went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Singer in hits.

Singer vs. Merryville

Runs were at a premium as the Singer Hornets defeat the Merryville Panthers.

Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Thursday, but Singer defeated Merryville 3-1.

Caston Perkins allowed just five hits to Merryville.

Merryville got things moving in the first inning, when Stellan Mirante singled on a 2-2 count that scored one run.

Singer evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning as Gavin Wright grounded out, scoring one run.

Singer pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning.

In the fourth an error by Merryville scored one run for Singer.

Perkins got the start for Singer. The ace surrendered one run on five hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Mirante was on the pitcher’s mound for Merryville. The bulldog allowed two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out four. Blaze Brister and Trace Myers entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one inning respectively.

Wright, Dylan Conner, Kohlson Moore, and Perkins each collected one hit to lead Singer.

Singer didn’t commit a single error in the field. Conner had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

Mirante went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Merryville in hits.
