Chester Gearen

Chester “Pete” Wayne Gearen, 101, of Singer passed from this life on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023.

Pete was a cowboy from birth! He began riding horseback from the age of three and never looked back. He roped, herded cattle and built all the barns on their property. He really enjoyed breaking horses and did so in such a quiet and gentle manner. He truly earned the respect of the horses.

At the age of thirty-nine, Pete met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Carlton. They spent the next sixty plus years enjoying each other’s company and taking care of each other. He was thrilled to have celebrated his 101st birthday last June and was looking forward to 102. He worked hard all the days of his life and lamented in the last few years how difficult it was to not be able to do as much physical activity as he would have liked to. But in true cowboy fashion, he had earned his rest.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-three years, Evelyn Gearen of Singer; nephew, Colin Wayne Carlton of Singer; sister, Rebecca Bass of DeQuincy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Susie Gearen, Sr.; grandfather, Rufus Gearen, Sr.; brothers, Marue Gearen, Douglas “Sud” Gearen, Jr., Leon Gearen; and sisters, Dottie Gearen Royer, Joy Fay Gearen Hardin.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder,. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Bro. Raymond Willie will officiate the service.

Pallbearers were Mike Mitchell, Gearen “Pud” Abdalla, Lindsey Granger, Paul Williams, Joe Perry and Lucien Cooper. Honorary Pallbearers were Pargie Abdalla and Ginger Holland. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.
