Tornado damages homes, causes power outage

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, at approximately 5:30 p.m., nine firefighters deployed Ward 6 Engine 5, Unit 903 with UTV 21, Unit 904 with UTV 20, and Unit 901 to Beauregard Parish Fire District 2 for search and rescue operations following a tornado in the Meadow Village area.

While enroute, incident command assigned us to the Panhandle Rd. area off Camp Edgewood Rd. Ward 6 crews interfaced with search crews from BFD 2 and MedExpress Ambulance service to successfully perform rescues.

Once rescues were competed in that area, units were staged at the incident command post at St. Pius Catholic Church and tasked with missions until search operations were called off for the night due to safety for searchers conducting night time operations.

Agencies from Beauregard Parish and Calcasieu Parish worked together on this large scale event.

Agencies involved were: Beauregard Parish Fire District 2, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Beauregard Parish Offiice of Emergency Preparedness, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Ward 1 Fire Department-Calcasieu Parish, Westlake Fire Department -Calcasieu Parish, and Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One -Calcasieu Parish.

On Jan. 25 at 7:30 a.m., Ward 6 Unit 901 and UTV 21, Unit 902 with three firefighters returned to the Incident Command post and assisted Beauregard FD 2 and Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office with secondary search operations and conducted damage assessments of the affected areas.
