Cynthia Dowers

On Sunday, Jan. 16, 2023, Cynthia “Cindy” Ellen Dowers of Sulphur, an amazing nurse and beautiful mother of three, gained her angel wings at the age of sixty-two.

An avid reader and devoted life-long learner, Cindy could often be seen reading or studying to better her family’s future. Cindy loved learning about God and nursing. Cindy always had a nurturing personality and a loving heart that wanted to serve and help others in need. She was always an advocate for others and always wanted to make sure others felt included. Driven by her own personal tragedies, she developed a deep passion for helping others. During her extraordinary life, she earned not one, but two bachelor’s degrees in the fields of social work and nursing from both Louisiana Tech (1982) and Northwestern State University (1988).

Cindy worked as a registered nurse for nearly 20 years at Christus St. Patrick Hospital. She was often described as passionate, intelligent, and witty by those who worked with her. During her time as a registered nurse, she relentlessly cared and fought for all patients that were placed in her care. Her work ethic and compassionate spirit helped her earn Registered Nurse of the Year (2004).

Cindy later worked as a nurse practitioner for nearly 15 years. Driven to better understand how to care for others, she went on to earn her Master’s in Nursing from McNeese State University (2008) and became a Nurse Practitioner. She later earned her postmaster’s in Family Medicine from the Northern-Kentucky University (2010). In 2019, Cindy beat all odds after a brain injury and graduated with her postmaster’s in Psychiatric Nursing from Northwestern State University.

She is survived by her children, Kaice Farhat and wife, Cara, Somer Golemon and husband, Justin, and Jewel Farhat; grandchildren, Neiel Farhat, Cana Farhat, Bethel Farhat, Ezra Farhat, Soraya Golemon, Zara Golemon, Braylon Boudreaux, Marlee Hebert, Sephra Kraemer, and Sabrielle Kraemer; sister, Karen Chasson; and brother, David Dowers and wife, Lorie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Jewel Dowers.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana.
