Sheryl Royer

Sheryl “Sherry” Berry Royer, 70, a resident of DeQuincy was born Aug. 27, 1952 and passed away Monday, Sept. 12. Sherry graduated DeQuincy High School in 1970; she continued her education at McNeese State University where she obtained a Bachelors Degree and continued to further her education with a Masters Degree in Social Work from Louisiana State University. Sherry worked for the Department of Family and Children’s Services for thirty years and retired in 2008. She liked to stay busy so she continued to counsel families and children at Chadha Medical Clinic. Sherry was an avid reader, she loved music, she was a great cook and she enjoyed traveling. She really look forward to her trips to the beach with her friends Kim and Phyllis. Sherry was always thinking of others putting their needs above her own. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister and she will be greatly missed.

Sherry is survived by her daughter, Kelli Castleberry and wife, Carli Karluk of DeQuincy; son, Casey Royer and wife, Sarah of Sulphur; her grandchildren, Andrew, Brooke, Blake, Elliot, Caleb, Brinley and Bree; along with dozens of other foster babies who were very special to her but closest to her heart were Jensen and Austin (Ozzy). She is also survived by her mother, Betty Jo Berry; sisters, Sharon Rose Gillis of Shreveport and Carol Welch and husband, Mike of DeQuincy; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Atwood “Coy” Royer; and her father, Charles Ray Berry.

The family will receive friends 12-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. The visitation and funeral service will be held at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Wayne Neyland will officiate. Interment will follow at Riley Smith Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th St., DeQuincy.
