Karen Alston

Karen Denise Alston, 56, of DeQuincy went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 due to complications of Alzheimer’s.

Karen was born to Jerry and Sharon Johnson on Feb. 1, 1966. She grew up in Oakdale where she graduated from Oakdale High School as Valedictorian in 1984. She then married the love of her life, Randy Alston, on May 24, 1986. For 36 years, she lovingly stood by his side in the ministry and in the ups and downs of life. Continuing her education, she graduated from Louisiana College in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education Grades K-12 and Special Education. With joy, she taught Special Ed for several years until she became a stay-at-home mom. She loved and cared for her two daughters, Anna and Sara. Many trips to the library, scrapbooking, and cooking were some of the things they enjoyed doing together.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Odis and Texie Johnson, and Chester and Hughie Baham; her parents, Jerry and Sharon Johnson; one niece, Callie Johnson; and her precious baby, lost to a miscarriage, whom she finally got to meet in Heaven.

To cherish her memories, Karen leaves behind her loving husband Randy Alston of DeQuincy; daughters, Anna Alston of DeQuincy and Sara Orms and husband, Trent, of Wills Point, Texas; brothers, Russell Johnson and wife, Teresa, of El Dorado, Ark. and Brian Johnson and wife, Heidi, of Oakdale; nieces, Hannah Kaiser and husband, Garrett, of Texas, Holly Hughes and husband, Doyle, of Arkansas, Sadie Hamblin and husband, Dylan, of Texas, and Shara Johnson of Louisiana.

Visitation was held at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, June 24, from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 12-1:30 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 25, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services immediately followed at Pine Chapel Cemetery in Oakdale.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to off set the costs of the funeral.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
