Jean Bryant

Jean Evelyn Bryant, 83, of Niceville, Fla., passed from this life into eternity, with her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, May 7, 2022. She was a beloved Mother, Wife, Friend, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.

Jean was born on May 24, 1938, to Alton and Pearl (Martin) Pierce in DeQuincy; she immediately brought laughter and joy into the world. Jean was blessed with six brothers and five sisters, and a large extended family. At age 12, she went to live with her maternal grandparents to assist with daily living. She graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1956, and shortly thereafter moved to the big city of Houston with her sisters to pursue a career. During this time, she met her future husband Robert Q. Bryant, a military policeman in the US Air Force. After a short engagement, they were married and grew together for 45 years. They raised three children: Robert E. (Bobby) Bryant, Elizabeth A. Bryant, and William G. Bryant.

As was the times, Jean Evelyn wrote routinely to her mother in DeQuincy asking advice on motherly and family issues; correspondence was routine. They maintained a close relationship even as the Bryants moved around the world during their time in the USAF. At military retirement, the Bryants had settled in Seminole, a suburb of Niceville. Jean was a dedicated wife and mother, raising her kids in Biblical fashion with principles. The neighborhood kids were always welcome. Family members loved visiting Jean and family in Florida over the years, especially enjoying the white sand beaches.

She loved attending family reunions and other get-togethers; especially the big dinners (weren’t they all). Jean Evelyn enjoyed gardening, long walks, sightseeing, and spending time outdoors. Jean supported the family in multiple ways, including various part-time positions over the span of 40 years, such as custodian, laundryman, warehouseman, caregiver, and keypunch operator. She instilled working hard and “doing the job right the first time” in her children and learners. She loved the times she spent with her grandchildren over the later years. Most important to Jean was her relationship with the Lord. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher at Northbay Baptist Church for 35+ years, usually teaching the 1st-2nd grade class. Students’ loved Mrs. Jean and her Bible stories, crafts, and games each week; the weekly snacks always brought encouragement and a smile.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Robert Q.; and her eldest son, Bobby. She was also preceded in death by her parents and multiple brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Liz of Niceville Fla. and her youngest son, Billy; his wife, Loretta; and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Uriah, and Eva of Baker Fla. She is also survived by brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and multiple other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jean’s name to the Florida Baptist Children’s Home (One More Child +1).

Memorial service will be held at Renovation Church (formerly Northbay Baptist), 4681 E Hwy 20, Niceville, Saturday May 14, at 10 a.m. with Pastor David Duvall. Visitation will be one hour before services. Graveside services will follow at Paxton Cemetery in Paxton Fla. with Evans Funeral Home officiating.
