Janet Milam

Janet Kathleen Brian Milam was born Oct. 16, 1939 and passed away Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2022 in Beaumont, Texas.

Growing up, Janet played basketball and volleyball in high school. She excelled at Lamar University, earning a Bachelor degree, and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling all while raising five young children. She taught reading for 30+ years and even after retiring, substituted at the high school level just to be around students.

Her greatest loves were her family, working in her flower beds, growing anything that could be grown in her garden, all animals esp. her kitties, but above all was her relationship with God. She was a kind, loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and child of God. Nina, as all the kids called her, will be forever missed, and remembered.

She is singing with the angels now and has a smile on her face because she is with Jesus and working in His garden. She is finally reunited with her son, parents, and brother.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Arnold Milam; children, Rebecca Collins and husband, Randy, James Milam and wife, Tamara, Ellen Brunet and husband, David, and John Milam and wife, Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Lauren Whitten, Nolan Collins, Hailey Lauderdale, Stephen Rousset, Jacob Benjamin Milam, Brittney Drinkard, Kristen Drinkard, Jessie Drinkard and Trevor Milam; five great-grandchildren, Layken Whitten, Skylar Whitten, Brayden Collins, Emma Lauderdale and Abby Lauderdale.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dean Oliver Milam; parents, James Harvey Brian and Cecil Lottie Peavey Brian; and brother, James Brian.

The family received friends from 9 a.m-10 a.m. with the memorial service following at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 5. Services were held at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Interment followed at Bilbo Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
