James Netherland

James Nathaniel Netherland, 88, died Friday, Mar. 18, 2022 at his residence.

He was born in Manifest. He served his country in the U.S. Army, attending basic training at Fort Polk and serving in the Fifth Cavalry Regiment in the Korean War. He later worked as a Foreman for the Austin Bridge Company and Conoco before retiring and purchasing East Town Liquor in Lake Charles. He was a member of the Freemasons, where, in 1986, he served as Master of John C. Ayers Lodge 437.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Friday Netherland of Longville; daughter, Kelly Netherland and Matt Caballos of Iowa; stepdaughter, Karen Kober and her daughter, Kalelyn Kober of Seabrook, Texas; daughter, Theresa and Leonard Manuel of Carlyss; sons, Terry Netherland of Lake Charles, Warren Netherland of Jennings, and Marvin Netherland of Lafayette; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son; parents, Benson and Minnie Brooks Netherland; seven sisters; and five brothers.

A private family gathering was held prior to interment at The Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings. Interment services and burial at the cemetery was held on Wednesday, March 23, with Rev. Don DuPlechian and Terry Kirl officiating.
