Starks High Girls Basketball Coach James “Taco” Holloway’s 300th career game win followed the boys home win against South Cameron on Thursday, Jan. 27.

Coach Holloway is a Starks native alumni who graduated SHS in 1997. Holloway served ten years as an E5 Sergeant in the United States Army and graduated McNeese State University in 2003. His career as SHS head coach in both basketball and track began in 2004. He continued as a three sport coach until 2009, when with the birth of his first child, he continued on only as head coach of the Panther basketball team.

Coach Holloway is himself an SHS Panther three sport letterman and a past lead scorer for the Panther team. In 2005 he joined his life with Starks High School schoolmate Brandi Stains and together they have forged a life of teaching and school service.

Coach Holloway’s service to his school and his dedication to coaching is indeed a family affair and their four children have grown up following the Panthers on the road and cheering the team on in the Panther Den gym.

Coach Holloway continues to carry the torch high for Stark athletics as the school’s athletic director. Through the years he has mentored and continues to mentor countless student athletes. Those who have gained from his tutelage can still be seen in the stands as they return to support their former coach and to cheer the Panther team on. Panther teams which now include his two oldest children.

Following his career 300th game win, Coach Holloway, surrounded by his current team and family, was recognized with the presentation of a 300 Wins commemorative basketball.
