Wrestlers compete at state tournament

By Mike Suchanek

DeQuincy High Schools wrestling team, which consists of two wrestlers, recently competed in the LHSAA state meet in Baton Rouge Louisiana.

Lawton Royer a Freshman who wrestles in the 106 lb. weight class placed 5th in the event. Camden Gautreaux a Junior, who wrestles in the 126 lb. weight class also finished 5th in the state.

Both student athletes are extremely motivated having to travel out of town for every practice. The closest training facility for them is in Sulphur.

The boys are coached and trained by the Sulphur High School coaches since we don’t have a wrestling coach in DeQuincy. The coaches are JeanPaul Duhon and Cyle Harrison Burnett.
