Charles Hansen

Charles Herman Hansen, 85, of Sulphur passed away on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021. Charles was born on Feb. 13, 1936 in Lake Charles.

Charles graduated from LaGrange High School in 1954 and married the love of his life, Olive Faye Hoffpauir on Feb. 18, 1956. Charles went on to play football at Tulane University where he graduated in 1958 and began his coaching career at Pineville High School in 1962. In 1964, he decided to pursue his master’s degree at McNeese State University while remaining a member of its coaching staff. In 1965, he transferred to Marion High School as head coach and remained there until 1970. He then went on to Westlake High School as Head Coach. His first administrative position came in 1974 as an assistant principal at LeBlanc Middle School. In 1978, he took an assistant principal position at W. W. Lewis Middle School. He remained at W. W. Lewis, assuming the principal’s position in 1980 until his retirement.

Charles especially loved his family and stayed close to his coaching and administrative friends throughout his life.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Faye Hoffpauir Hansen; parents, Fritz and Gertiece Hansen; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Margie Hansen; brother-in-law, Michael Wade; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, A.J. and Jeanette Hoffpauir.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Fritzi Fralick and husband, Donald; son, Jack Hansen and wife, Lisa; son, Chuck Hansen and wife, Allison; daughter, Cindy Dowers and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Kristin Brooks (Scotty), Bryan Fralick (Melina), Raymond Fralick Pena (Jenilea), Dustin Hansen, Josh Hansen (Jessi), Lauren Thrift (Zach), Jake Dowers (Christin), Anna Reuber (Michael), Will Hansen (Ashli), Hannah Hansen, and Georgia Hansen; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Elle, Hudson, Graham, Lincoln Claire, Justin, Jason, Easton, Landry, Barret, Maddox, and Ellee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sulphur.

Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharri Zehner officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or St. Jude.
