Martha Blackmon

Martha Jane (Fluitt) Blackmon, 81, of DeQuincy, passed away on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at her residence.

She was born to her late parents, Arthur and Elvie Fluitt on Apr.14, 1940 in DeQuincy.

She was an avid collector of owls, and loved to watch scary movies. In her younger years, she played multiple instruments in the Band and was also a Majorette at DeQuincy High School. She continued her love of music, playing the piano and organ at her church. She was proud of her family and loved her grandchildren. Martha spent her days with her two dogs, Taco and Bell, whom she loved very much. She enjoyed telling stories about her family gatherings at the river to anyone who would listen.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kim Reeder Poole (David) of Grand Lake, Misty Blackmon Kelly (Dean) of Moss Bluff; two grandchildren, Natalie Poole of Grand Lake, Jordan Poole (Bailey) of Lake Charles; along with her niece, Jody Yellott; great-nephew, Peyton Yellott; and great-niece, Holly Hines, all of DeQuincy.

Martha Jane is preceded in death by her husband, B. C. Blackmon; twin brother, Arthur “Jug” Fluitt; and her sister, Sadie Hyatt.

Services will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Friday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ray Hyatt officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery.
