Olin Chester

Olin Dea Chester, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021.

He was born in Pleasant Hill. He served in the Marine Corps from 1958-1964 as a Radio and Telegraph Operator. He moved his family to Vinton in 1969. He worked at Firestone in Orange as an operator and retired in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion and the USO. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth LeJeune Chester; sisters, Virginia Carter and Margie Kinsley; children, Rene Broussard (Lloyd) of Vinton, Diana Dietz (Raymond) of DeQuincy, Gary Chester (Darilyn) of Carlyss and Keith Chester (Matilda) of Vinton; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James J. and Willie Lou Chester; three brothers; and grandson, Jacob Louis Dietz.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday, Jan. 21, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Carlos Garcia officiating. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines South under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton.
