Qualifying wrapped up Thursday, Aug. 8, with statewide and local races taking shape for the Oct. 12 elections.

Statewide offices up for grabs are governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer, agriculture commissioner and insurance commissioner.

Elections for Southwest Louisiana include state senators and representatives in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jeff Davis parishes. Voters in Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jeff Davis parishes will also elect a member to serve on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). In Beauregard Parish, voters will decide on sheriff and nine police jury seats. Calcasieu Parish will vote on sheriff, assessor and 14 police jury seats. Voters in Jeff Davis and Cameron parishes will cast ballots for nine police jury seats.

Early voting will be Sept 28-Oct. 5.

Here is a list of the races to be decided by voters. Incumbents seeking re-election are denoted with an (I).

State

Secretary of State: Kyle Ardoin (I), “Gwen” Collins-Greenup, Thomas J. Kennedy III and Amanda “Jennings” Smith.

Attorney General: “Ike” Jackson Jr. and “Jeff” Landry (I).

Treasurer: Derrick Edwards, Teresa Kenny and John M . Schroder (I).
