Scott Edward Brown, 69, of DeQuincy passed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
He was born to his late parents, Harvey and Betty Lou Brown on Aug. 30, 1956 in DeQuincy. Scott was a Professional Baseball player and Pitcher having played for the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals. He played from 1975 until 1983. He then went on to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer. Scott was a part of the BLE Union of Railroad. Scott loved watching Westerns, especially Gun Smoke. He also enjoyed Cheyenne, Lawman, and would sing the opening songs.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and being at Toledo Bend. Scott and Cheryl enjoyed traveling in the motor home to various destinations, mainly to San Antonio to see their daughter and family. Friday Pancake Fellowship was something that Scott looked forward to every week. It was a great pleasure of his to visit with his elders, especially Walton Baggett. Scott loved his church and church family, and worshiping his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Cheryl Brown; children, Alicia Ortagus (Billy) of San Antonio, Texas and Matthew Edward Brown of DeQuincy; brothers, Tracey “Hoss” Brown (Laura) and Dan Brown (Neicy), both of DeQuincy; sister, Rebecca “Becky” Grove (Johnny) of DeQuincy; along with his grandson, Lucian Ortagus. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents; along with his brother, Ricky Brown.
A Celebration of Scott’s life was held at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy on Thursday, July 23, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Neyland officiating. Visitation was held at the church on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Services were entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
