Archie Glenn Newnum, Jr., was born on Feb. 13, 1958, and passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the age of 68.
Archie was a tenderhearted, God fearing man whose strong faith guided his life. He served as a respected funeral director, offering compassion and comfort to families during their hardest moments. A legendary bass singer, he blessed many with his powerful and soulful voice. Archie was known for his great sense of humor, his constant willingness to help others, and his kind spirit.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Lewis (BJ); grandchildren, Katelyn and Garrett Lewis; siblings, Sherry McCormack, Liz Hulsey (Danny), Raymond Newnum (Judy), Gary Newnum (Theresa), and Leanne Singley (Darrell); numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Rev. Archie and Georgia Newnum; sister, Glenna Gunning; niece, Nichole Goff; and brother-in-law, James McCormack.
The family received friends Friday, May 8, from 5 – 8 p.m., at New Hope Baptist Church, 543 Marcantel Road in DeQuincy. The funeral service was held Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m., at New Hope Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Pastor Roland Hebert officiated. Interment followed at Oretta Cemetery in Singer.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
