Knights fall to Sterlington in semifinals

By Jake McCoy

Last weekend, the South Beauregard Golden Knights traveled to the Monroe area to take on the top seeded Sterlington Panthers in a best of three semifinal series with the trip to Sulphur on the line.

On Friday night both teams played clean and complimentary baseball as neither team had any errors on the night. However Sterlington’s bats were just a little bit hotter than South Beau’s and it made a big difference in the end as the Panthers took game one of the series by a final score of 5-0.

In game two on Saturday it was a very similar game as neither team committed an error. However both the Knights and Panthers bats were very cold all game long. In fact, the Knights out hit Sterlington 2-1 but the Panthers defense held South Beau in check, forcing the game into extra innings. Neither team could seem to score until the top of the 9th inning when Sterlington had a couple of runners on base thanks to a couple of walks. The Panthers hit a sack fly to take a 1-0 lead but they were not done as the only hit of the day came on a long drive to centerfield scoring two more runs to make it 3-0. That would be the final score as South Beauregard could not answer in the bottom half of the inning which ended their season.

Congratulations to the South Beauregard Golden Knights on a great season!
