Susan Lynette Boykin Barnes was born on Aug. 9, 1962, and passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the age of 63.
Susan was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Baptized at just six years old, she was a member of TPC DeQuincy her entire life.
Susan’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially the special moments sitting quietly with her mother.
She was a dedicated McNeese basketball fan, a regular at the Breakfast Club with Beau, and always looked forward to her appointments at the beauty shop with her favorite stylist, Micah. She loved nothing more than a good shopping trip and brought her own special brand of fun, kindness, humor, and crazy wherever she went. Susan was known for her determination, strong spirit, and her willingness to help others anytime she could.
Beautiful inside and out, Susan had a way of making ordinary days brighter with her laughter and big heart. Above all she loved her children, grandchildren, family, and Beau.
She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love her.
She is survived by her daughters, Laci Hext (Brad) and Su’Anne Fittz (Hunter); fiance’, Beau Barbe; mother, Glenda Boykin; grandchildren, Jaxsyn Hext, Cooper Hext, Hayz Hext, Mercy Hext, Drey Qualls, and Navy Stark; great-grandson, Barrett Hext; siblings, Johnny Boykin (Catina), Lisa Boyer (Duane), and Marlene Gillis (Garland).
She was preceded in passing by her father, RJ Boykin; and her late husband, Jim Barnes.
The family received friends Friday, June 26, from 5-8 p.m. and from 2 p.m., until the funeral service at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 27, at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy, 301 W Fourth St., DeQuincy. Rev. Wayne Neyland officiated. Interment followed at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
