Joseph Banken, Sr.

Joseph “JC” Banken, Sr. of DeQuincy, was born on Dec. 16, 1946, and passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 79 years of age.

JC was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. For 37 years, he worked as a postman for the DeQuincy Post Office.

He loved farming and raising his cows, being outdoors, and gardening. Above all, JC was a devoted Christian and faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cathy Banken; children, Joey Banken and Annette Spell and husband Bill; grandchildren, Josh Banken, Bryce Banken, Meghan Spell, Kenzie Spell, and Kaiden Spell; and brother, John Banken.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Virgil and Letha Banken; siblings, Dortha Ann Banken and Marlin Marcantel.

The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Monday, June 8, at New Hope Baptist Church in DeQuincy. Visitation continued from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, at New Hope Baptist Church Rev. Rodney Bankens and Rev. Lloyd Gibbs officiated.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
