Arvel Cooley, a resident of Singer, was born on Dec. 26, 1940, in Singer, to his parents, Clifford Dailey Cooley and Hazel Coleman Cooley. He passed from this life on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Those left to cherish Arvel’s memory are three children, Eugene and Connie Cooley of Lafayette, Pat and Pete Mitchell of Singer, Pam and Rich (or as Arvel called him “Rick”) Martino of Singer; six grandchildren, Michael Cooley, Kyle and Tiffany Mitchell, Jody and Lynsea Mitchell, Kaitlyn and Tim Stephens, Adrienne and Jonathan Young, Tressie and Larry Jacks, Jr.; fourteen great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jacqueline Cooley, Kane Mitchell, Jaxon Mitchell, Jett Mitchell, Sage Mitchell, Jasper Stephens, Ben Stephens, Brock Barbosa, Gabriel Barbosa, Izzy Barbosa, Addie Jacks, Graceson Jacks, Karson Jacks, Thomason Jacks; brother, Marvis and Joycie Cooley; and niece, Denise and James West.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Wanda Mae Burnett Cooley; and his parents, Clifford and Hazel Cooley.
The family wishes to thank all the hospital and hospice caregivers and special thanks to Penny Stevens for the compassionate care they gave our Dad during his time of need.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, at Newlin Cemetery in Singer. Rev. Kennis Smith will be officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
