Fatality involving a passenger vehicle & train

At approx. 12:13 a.m., on Sunday, June 22, Ward 6 Fire Dept. responded to a mutual aid request from DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Dept. for a vehicle crash involving a train and a passenger vehicle.

The crash occurred at the railroad crossing on Fourth St. near DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.

The driver was able to self extricate and medical care was provided by Acadian Ambulance.

Unfortunately, one female occupant was found deceased in the vehicle.

DeQuincy Police Dept. is investigating the crash with assistance from Louisiana State Police. Other agencies that responded included Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.

On Monday, June 23, David Wayne Richard, 35, Beaumont, Texas, was arrested at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital after he was transported for minor injuries. He was processed into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with the following: Vehicular Homicide, DWI 2nd, Open container, Disregarding Railroad Crossing Signals, No Driver’s License.
