Cooper to be Artistic Director of Les Petites Voix for 2025-26

Melonee Cooper of DeQuincy will be the Artistic Director of Les Petites Voix, a community chorus for children, for the 2025-26 season.

Cooper taught at DeQuincy High and DeQuincy Middle Schools for 28 years. She retired in 2019. She has been teaching at Lamar since 2020.

Les Petites Voix is a division of the Lousiana Choral Foundation. Lamar Roberson of Sulphur founded the choir. It has been under the direction of Kari McCarty Proksch for the past 18 years.

The choir is open to students in grades 4-12 with unchanged (treble) voices.

Rehearsals begin on Monday, Sept. 8, from 4-5:15 p.m. at University Methodist Church in Lake Charles.

The first rehearsal will serve as an audition for new singers. However, no singer will be required to sing alone.

Rehearsals will be held on Mondays when Calcasiue Parish School Board students attend school. The annual tuition is $100. However, scholarships are available when needed. Students will be responsible for purchasing their performance uniform.

There will be approximately 2-3 performances per year.
