Elroy Fontenot was born Aug. 26, 1926, and passed away Wednesday, Apr. 23, 2025 at the age of 98. He proudly served for two years in the United States Navy during WWII. Elroy was employed for 38 years as an Operator for WR Grace. He enjoyed squirrel hunting and gardening. Most of all he loved his family and adored his granddaughter, Ashley Ieyoub.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Fontenot; children, Charlotte Ieyoub and husband Patrick, Charles “Bo” Bell and wife Angie, Montina “Tina” Spell and husband David, Chris Dyson and husband Mike; grandchildren, Ashley, Bryan, Julia, Brent, Nathan, and Charles; along with numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, LuWilda Patrick Fontenot; parents, Orase and Ava Fontenot; siblings, Thelma Gordon, Dennis Fontenot, and Horace Fontenot.
The family received friends from 9 a.m. Monday, Apr. 28, until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Bro. Scott Streams and Bro. Vance Perkins officiated. Interment followed at Mimosa Pines (Garden Of Memories), 568 Belle Moye Road 27 South in Sulphur.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
