The Depeaux Gator stands proudly in Harry Methvin Memorial Park amid red and white snapdragons and trailing white lantana after being repaired and repainted by the DeQuincy native and artist Annette Hayes Bertrand.
Bertrand has been active with art for a Mardi Gras Krewe for several years. The DeQuincy Garden Club acted as a liaison between the city and the artist and was responsible for removing the gator, taking the gator to the artist, and returning the gator to the Pocket Park.
Depeaux Gator Committee members were Alma Brown, Genelle Hyatt, Lannie Thorn, Nelle Landry and Teresa Franks. The city requested the club to also help with the beds at the park. Members agreed to be responsible for the triangular flower bed beneath the gator. Lannie Thorn, who planned the planting and selected the plants, Verna Pickering, Gloria Doyle, Cathy Dickerson, and Edie Johnson were involved in the planting.
