Earl “Big Boy” Hoozer Jr., 86, of Hemphill, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Apr. 3, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas. Earl was born May 4, 1938, in Vidor, Texas.
He was the twin of Robert Hoozier and the first son of Earl Hoozer and Hazel Smith Hoozer. He graduated from Vidor High School and proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. Earl was a member of Boilermakers Local 587 and worked in many different states. He was also a fishing guide on Toledo Bend Lake. He loved fishing, hunting, sports, and the great outdoors. He was often seen sitting under a tree in his backyard with his dog, Loco, reading or visiting and philosophizing with friends and family.
Earl is survived by his siblings, Lavonie Woods, William Hoosier and wife Linda, Lanelle Jordon and husband James; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Laura Stanley, Robert Hoozier, Shirley Cooley, Joseph Hoozer, John Hoozer, and Michael Hoozer.
The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Apr. 8, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Roy Hoosier officiated. Interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.
Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
