Jones, longtime business man, has passed away

Services are pending withJames Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Jones had been a member of the DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce since 1977 and a Rotarian for nearly four years. He established the DeQuincy Community ACTS Foundation in 2021.)

Amos Jones, a long time resident of DeQuincy and owner/operator of Jones Paint and Body Shop, will celebrate his 80th birthday on Sept. 11, 2009. Born in Leonville, he is the seventh of 12 children.

Amos moved to DeQuincy in 1951 to work for Cooks Construction, a company contracted to build the seven bridges on Highway 12 in the Starks area. In 1957, Amos became an active Calcasieu Parish Reserve Deputy and has recently completed 50 years service with the Reserves.

For the past 15 years, Amos as worked as a School Safety Officer for DeQuincy Elementary School and also worked as a school bus driver for Calcasieu Parish Schools for 18 years.

He is an active volunteer at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church and has assisted with the clothing closet and food pantry ministries. Amos received the Maple Leaf Award from the Diocese of Lake Charles several years ago for his service and volunteer activities.

He has been a member of DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce since 1977 and an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is married to Eva Jones and has seven children, all of whom have been to college. Yvonne Prejean of Lafayette works as an R.N.; Vivian Jones of Jackson is a Home Economics teacher; Amos Jones III of Houston works for Union-Pacific railroad; Mike Jones of Beaumont works for Williams Gas; Sylvester Jones of Lafayette works as a Captain for Hub Security; Aaron Jones of Lake Charles works as an operator for the railroad; and Joe Jones lives in DeQuincy.
