Cole elected without opposition to Louisiana Supreme Court

Judge Cade R. Cole, a DeQuincy native, was recently elected without opposition to the Louisiana Supreme Court. He fills a vacancy caused by Justice James Genovese of Opelousas being named President of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

Cole will fill Genovese’s remaining term before running for a full ten-year term in 2026. Due to redistricting the district is a new Calcasieu anchored district that includes parts of Shreveport and Western St. Landry together with all of Allen, Beauregard, Cameron, Calcasieu, DeSoto, Evangeline, Jeff Davis, Natchitoches, Sabine, and Vernon parishes.

He is only the second Justice from Calcasieu Parish in over a century. The late Justice Jack Watson was elected in 1978.

Justice Cole is a 2001 graduate of DeQuincy High School who also graduated with honors from Tulane Law School. He then clerked for Justice Jeanette Knoll at the Louisiana Supreme Court before returning to practice law. He was the state’s tax judge. He also previously served as an Assistant District Attorney, DeQuincy’s Magistrate, and City Attorney for Sulphur and Vinton.

Justice Cole currently lives in Lake Charles with his four children and his wife, Rebekah, a former chemical engineer. His parents and sister, Ricky, Marla, and Kristen, all reside in DeQuincy.
