Bishop Doyle Douglas Davis Sr. was born in Newton County Texas on Nov. 14, 1932, the son of Cecil S. Davis (a Pentecostal minister) and Eva Herrin Davis. He excelled at sports and music and made a number of musical recordings with his brother and father in his teen years. He acknowledged a call to spiritual ministry early in life and at age 17, began to travel as an evangelist. In 1950, at the age of 18, he received ministerial license with the United Pentecostal Church, International and was ordained seven years later, in 1957.
Bishop Davis was called to his eternal reward on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Betty Joyce Davis; son, Doug Davis Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Sandi Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Ginny Davis; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at New Life Church, 2450 US Hwy 190 W, in Jasper, Texas. Interment to follow at Davis Family Cemetery , 298 CR 475, Kirbyville, Texas.
Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
