Irene Perkins

Irene “Tene” Perkins was born Oct. 31, 1933, and passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at the age of 91.

She was one of the first original members of Hargrove Pentecostal Church. There she was a faithful member and attended for 68 years. She enjoyed fishing and scrolling on Facebook. Every Saturday she met with her friends to play her favorite game, Phase10. Tene loved the Lord and her family more than anything. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Anice LeGros and husband Eric, Brenda Parker, and Robert “Rod” Perkins Sr. and wife Kathy; eight grandsons; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Asolete Burnitt; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Perkins; parents, Gus Stanley and Dora Kingrey Stanley; son-in-law, James Parker; and brothers, JD Stanley, Orville Stanley, and Jabo Stanley.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, with the funeral service being held 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, at Hargrove Pentecostal Church in DeQuincy. Pastor Anthony Kennon, Rev. David Kennon, and her nephew, Rev. Wesley Stanley officiated. Interment followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.

Arrangements were handled by Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. Fourth St., DeQuincy.
