John “Johnny” D. Henagan was born Jan. 9, 1937 and passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024 at the age of 87. He retired from Williams Bros. after a career of approximately 40 years. He proudly served in the National Guard for approximately eight years and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was elected deacon in the Baptist Church in 1973 and served in the area of music ministry through the years at various churches. Johnny was a long time member of the DeQuincy Masonic Lodge #279 and was a mason for over 50 years. Singing, hunting, and fishing were some of the things he enjoyed. Cooking remained something he loved to do. He was known for his big pots of sauce picante and gumbo. Johnny spoke often of times that he would help his uncle Buddy and Unc fry up a batch of fish, french fries, and hush puppies for a crowd.
He is survived by his two daughters, Darlene Floyd and husband, David of Ragley and Johna Williams and husband, Roy of DeQuincy; one son, David Henagan and wife, Angela of DeQuincy; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Young and husband, Rodney of Katy, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 63 years, Norma Henagan; and his parents, Shirley “Buck” and Maureen McFatter Henagan.
The family received friends from 12 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Interment followed at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.
In lieu of flowers donations made to First Baptist Church of DeQuincy or Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home would be appreciated.
