Talbert Bunch

Talbert Leon Bunch, 89, of Sulphur, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024 at his residence. He was born to his late parents, Jesse Sr. and Lorena Bunch on Mar. 9, 1935 in Westlake. He raised cattle and enjoyed doing hay, and loved fishing. Talbert built cabinets and loved sitting on his porch and drinking coffee with family and friends. In years past, he loved to go hunting with his wife, Hazel. He worked with his brother, Richard Bunch for about 30 years as a painter and for Water District 7 for 16 years. Talbert was a member of Painters Local 783, and also a member of Farm Bureau. He was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in DeQuincy, where he served his church and Lord and Savior for many years. Talbert loved his boys, and cherished the time he got to spend with them.

He is survived by two sons, Winston Bunch and Carlton Bunch, both of DeQuincy; brother-in-law, Barney Bell of DeQuincy; sister-in-law, Judy Bunch of Sulphur; Heather Kalenda (close family friend, who was like a daughter and sister); along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Talbert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Hazel Bunch; brothers, Stirley, Shirley, Kyle, Richard, and Jesse Bunch; sisters, Evelyn Addison and Doris Ivey; along with his mother and father-in-law, George and Lucy Bell.

A Celebration of life was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. Rev. Ron Sherer and Rev. Jordan Doyle officiated. Visitation was held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 5 until 8 p.m. and resumed at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial followed at Masonic Cemetery.

Services entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 E. Harrison St., DeQuincy.
