Rotary’s first meeting after Summer hiatus with Judson as speaker

Happy New Rotary Year! Rotary starts their year in July instead of January. Rotary Club of DeQuincy resumed their regularly scheduled monthly meetings after a brief Summer hiatus on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The new vision statement for this year announced by the International Rotary President Stephanie Urcheck of Pennsylvania, USA is “Create Hope In The World With The Magic of Rotary.” She is the second woman to hold the title internationally.

City Attorney Mark Judson was the guest speaker and shared an informative program on the importance of setting up a will for your family. Judson has just located an office in Downtown DeQuincy.

There was great fellowship and a wonderful meal enjoyed by all attendees. They were: Douglas DeViney, Crystal Nix, Amos Jones, Frank Lawrence Jones, Jeffra DeViney, Margaret Jones, Lauren O’Neal, Woody Daigle, Mary Jo Bayles, Tony O’Banion, Todd Parker, Jimmy Henagan, Kim Rainwater, Sherri Breaux, Lillian Karr, Vance Perkins, Hazel Jackson and Rachel Piquard.

Crystal Nix, Secretary/Treasurer announced that our annual fundraiser will be a raffle to draw for two firearms purchased from Nichols. Two separate winners will be drawn for a 9mm Glock pistol and a Ruger 10/22 Rifle at 2025 Louisiana Railroad Days Festival in April. Tickets will be available at DeQuincy News and from any Rotary member at $5 each. With the purchase of a ticket, there is a chance to win one of the two guns.

September Birthdays were recognized they are: Amos Jones who will be 95 years young, Lillian Karr and Crystal Nix.

Next month’s meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 12 noon at CrossPoint Fellowship Hall, 301 Center St.. Representatives from CLECO will present the featured program. All are invited to join us.
