The DeQuincy High School Class of 1956 met Saturday, Aug. 24, for their 68th reunion. Jack Savoy was master-of-ceremonies for the program which included remembrances of classmates and teachers. The question, “Do you remember…?” was answered by comments that sometimes brought sadness, but more often caused laughter.
Jeanette King, a former local elementary school teacher, entertained the group with songs. She has a two-way connection to the class as her uncle was Monette Core and her mother-in-law is Syble King.
Of the fifty-three graduates, there are twenty-one now living, and three whose whereabouts are unknown.
Those able to attend were George Abdalla of DeRidder, Syble King of Westlake, and Lumberton, Texas, Jack Savoy, Sealy, Texas, and Bill Bevil, John Henagan, John Puerta, T. D. Deal, and Dannie Marcantel, all of DeQuincy.
Guests included spouses and family members as well as Grace Perez of Lake Charles and Genelle Hyatt of DeQuincy who both graduated with other DHS classes, but have attended reunions of the class for many years.
Good food and fellowship was enjoyed, and it was agreed to meet again next year.
