By Vance Perkins, DeQuincy Railroad Museum Board President
If you like trains, make your way to 400 Lake Charles Ave. in DeQuincy, on Saturday, May 25.
You can watch as the CPKC Empress 2816 Steam Locomotive passes by the 1923 KCS Depot which houses the DeQuincy Railroad Museum.
The Empress is a 1930 steam locomotive that has been refurbished. Its journey from Alberta, Canada to Mexico City, Mexico is in remembrance of the merger of Canadian Pacific and KCS. Railfans and train chasers have been and are following its course across three nations. It will make stops in seven U.S. cities. One of those stops is in Shreveport. It will be there on May 24, from 4 to 8 p.m.
It will not stop in DeQuincy but just pass by on it’s way to Mexico. Check out cpkcr.com for more info about the Empress. A time schedule is not readily available but it could pass through DeQuincy as early as 9 a.m. or as late as 1 p.m. Bring a picnic lunch and spend some time with us at the Museum.
Tour our static display of a 1913 locomotive and other displays while you wait for the Empress to pass by. The DeQuincy Railroad Museum and partners will be providing (free of charge) ice-cold drinks and water, popcorn and snow cones.
Our kiddie train will also be in operation. Come spend a few hours with us and prepare to get a shot of the Empress with the Depot in the background. Bring Grandpa and the kids and have a great day. Please share this to help us get the word out about “Steamin’ Thru DQ”.
